The Sanctuary accommodation in Arthur's Pass offers visitors a cheap, clean and convenient place to stay in the centre of the village. This historic bunkhouse sleeps up to 8 people and provides:
- Bunk beds for 8 (mattresses and pillows provided, sleeping bags required)
- Kitchen facilities (e.g. hob, oven, microwave, cutlery, crockery, utensils)
- Coin operated public shower and laundry
- Large, sunny dayroom, with easy chairs and a small library
- Off street parking, 5 minutes walk from the railway station
- Easy access to the mountain ranges, including Avalanche Peak
- Internet café and bicycle hire available.

Arthur's Pass National Park
In 1929, Arthur's Pass National Park became the first national park to be established in New Zealand. Arthur's Pass village offers visitors access to its peaks, passes, glaciers and tarns, gorges, waterfalls and deep river valleys, forests and alpine meadows. Mountaineering and tramping (hiking) are popular activities, particularly the day hike to Avalanche Peak (find out more about walks in the area).
Visitors to Arthur's Pass can arrive by Atomic Bus Shuttles or by the TranzAlpine train, running between Christchurch and Greymouth.
